Summary round 1, preview rnd 2

Donut of the series, round 1:

Rolston 3+1+3=7
Straka 3+3=6
Stumpel 2+2+1=5
Nabokov 2
Mason 2
Doan 1
Zubov 1

Series notes:
* Stockholm scored at most 2 goals in a game, while Donuts scored at least 2 or more in every game. It is a no brianer to figure out the winner.
* Rolston, Straka, Stumpel and Doan are on the go in the playoffs, Gomez and Jagr have 3 assists toghether! They need to get moving.
* Mason and Nabokov are neck and neck for the starting position, next round may be an indicator.
* Usually the defense scores a goal a game in Donut country but so far 4 games and no d man goals. Better get moving Boucher, Neidermaiyer, Ohlund, Jovanovski and Zubov.
* Zetterberg in Mooseheads had 45 goals in 72 games in regular season, but just 2 assists in 3 games in round 1.
* Donuts rank low in penalties for the playoffs need to cut down the abuse, but rank high in PK and goals against, as is common for them.

Preview of Round 2 against Calgary:
* Calgary is the team with most penalty min in playoffs so far, time to exploit.
* It might not be a home advantage for the Donuts! Chinnock was during the regular season 18-20-3 at home while 20-16-5. Hope they don't like the bag.
* Calgarys Savard (1+5) and Afanigenov (2+1) are sleepers through round 1, don't wake them up!
* Fleury had a terrible season with a game average of .899 while in the playoffs .905!

Series in regular season:
Day 21: Cal@Wis 3-6 6 differnet scorers, Cal had 35 SOGs and 117 comp passes.
Day 60: Wis@Cal 5-5(OT) Boucher 2 goals, Cal had 33 SOGs and 128 compl passes.
Day 98: Cal@Wis 3-6 Rolston hattrick, Bochenski a 5 point game, Cal 44 SOGs and 120 passes.
DAY 137: Wis@Cal 1-3 Masons loss against Calgary. low shooting and passing game.
Not the perfect opponent for Donuts, Calgary likes away games and take points at home.

Donuts spare nothing on Spurs, Day 145

It was a battle of two giants, in this year of CCHL. Both leading their conferences but Hawaii breathing hrd down Denvers neck. For once Donuts was not the better team in statistics out shot, out hit and out played in the offensive zone but better on the score sheet. When the team went from 3-1 to 5-1 in the second period it was over. Never would donuts loose by 4 goals in the last period and they didn't it held to 6-3.

Owls watch one point closely, Day 141

Game against Portland, odds in favor for Donuts but not a easy game. And so it proved with a point each for the teams. I think Portland is happiest with that or maybe Hawaii who has been sneaking up behind Denver and now is maybe the biggest threat!

Killer Donuts kills Killers, Day 139

A intra divisional game with a Division title to claim if Donuts win. No easy game but odds where in Donuts favor.

We have often criticized Donuts for not scoring first this time they did after a minute play. The Donuts had the lead most of the game but it wasn't until 3:rd period the game was in hand.

Game notes:
* Rolstons 40:th tied for teamlead with Straka, who was the first ever 40 goal scorer for Donuts.
* This was the 10:th straight game without Jagr scoring. Talk about a slump, he was battling for the team scoring title before the bottom went out. He has 5 SOGs this game, maybe a comeback sign.
* Not a 5-50-150 game but at least a 4-37-109. Killers actually out passed and out hit Donuts.

Second star: Ladd, 1G 1A, in 8 min play.

Here was came the crunch 3 game in 3 days series and it start of with one of the easier in Calgary and the players are just no there. This was not a 5-50-150 performance but a mediocre 1-28-112 night. First goal or not it just didn't help although the Chinook had some luck in taking advantage of their chances.

Donut of the month (March): Rolston

Time again to figure out which player wins 50 kilos of Donuts as a reward from our sponsor.

It is determined from the Stars in the game where the first get 3 points down to one point on the third star. As a tie breaker most 3´s win and so on.

This moth 14 games where played:

Rolston 1+3+3+3+3+3+2 =18
Straka 3+3+2+2+2+1 =13
Boucher 3+2+1+2+1+3 =12
Gomez 2+2+1+3+3 =11
Jagr 3+3+2+1 =9
Niedermayer 2+1+1+1+1+1 =7
Mason 3+2 = 5
Zubov 1+2+2 =5
Doan 2
Lehtinen 1
Nabokov 1

It was a bit of a no brainer this month... If I back check Rolston scored 18 goals this month in 14 games. Rolston got 18 stars five ahead of Straka (7 goals during the period). In addition Rolston was the most frequent player with any star with 7, Straka, Boucher and Niedermayer with 6 each. Nice to see Mason get two mentions with 5 stars in the 9 games he played so far. Just 11 different player got points this month as 15 last month and even 12 in January with only 5 games. Jagr also had 18 stars last month as a winner and an even bigger difference to second place.

Rolston now joins the winners from previous months Jagr (Feb) and Niedermayer (Jan). Congrats Brian and a big cheer for one of the remaining original Donuts, collect your 50 kg of Donuts in the shop in the stands!
