Donuts lynch Lahr, Day 134

Much better showing of the team. This time it was almost the 5-50-150 hattrick (5 goals-50 SOGs and 150 complete passes). Lahr was very tame tonigt.

* Straka tied with Rolston for scoring lead 39 goals.
* For once donuts took the lead and never let it go!
* Gomez was out and will be back for next 3 day/3 game schedule.
* It was a 5-48-151 game.

First star. Boucher, 2G 1A, 5 SOGs and 16-1 in passing.

Mason SO & Rolston HT win Moose , Day 132

It was time for revenge on the last game, the lost against Ibex. I voted for 5 goals, 150 passes and 50 shots, not quite but good enough.

What we got is 41 shots (against 20), 3 goals (against 0) and 133 passes (against 98). The big news is that it was Masons first SO in a Donut uniform. He has kept the around the .915 save average he came in with, his saves per games are creeping down (less shots), although I actually thought he would do better with the defense that is in front of him. Well, both he and Nabby will reach 45+ games and will qualify for 7 games in any series.

2-0 2 WIS 1 18:29 Rolston 38
3-0 3 WIS 3 10:05 Rolston 39

Game notes:
* How about that Rolston! In the last 7 games he has been an army, scoring 11 goals! Jagr had the first half of March and went cold, now Straka has gone cold but Rolston is the savior!
* Rolston had a hattrick at end of February against Calgary (together with Bochenski) latest.
* Gomez injured for 4 days, it will affect the game against Lahr in two days but he is back in time for the 3 games in 3 days.

First star: Mason, a SO is a nig thing for Donuts only the third this year. The others are Nabbys. Welcome to the club!
Second star: Rolston, a hattrick is a hattrick even in Wisborg, 3G out of 3, GWG!
Third star: Niedermayer, 17-0 in passing.

Lahr in two days, without Gomez (ribs) probably Zajac will get the call. Yelle and Nieminen out for Lahr but they are marginal players. The odds should be in favour of the ´nuts!

Ibex beat Donuts, Day 130

It was indeed a hard nut to crack, North Dakota, even without Arnott. It was a pretty dismal game where Donuts just didn't gear up and probably though tit was won after first period.

2-2 4 BIS 2 14:50 Wolski 20 PPG
2-3 5 BIS 2 15:07 Bieksa 18

Game notes:
* Donuts back to old habits and letting in the first goal.
* Donuts was in the lead up until late second period where they let go...
* Gomez held his streak alive and is now at 17.
* Rolstons hot streak came to a halt, no scoring and not even a shot on
goal under 23 min of figure skating.
* Neither Straka, Rolston or Jagr scored. they have scored 107 goals
together otherwise. Must be fairly uncommon that neither scores.
* Ibex out preformed Donuts this night, more goals more faceoffs,
shooting 30-31 to Donuts (very low for ´nuts this year), out hit, out cornered
and out passed!
* Best bet is that Stockholm is going to suffer day 132 instead.
First star: Gomez, 1G, +1, 15-7 FO, 11-3 passing.
Second star: Straka, 1A, +1, 10-3 passing
Third star: Boucher, 1A, +1 7-0 passing.

Next game Stockholm at home, Donuts are healthy a marginal
player, Nicols, is out for the Moose. Best bet is that the
team want to get back on track. We aim for 50 SOGs, 5 goals
and 150 complete passes!

Wolves don't bite Donuts, Day 129

So it was a home game against Timberwolves (do they work in a sawmill or something?) and it was before hand to be a loopsided affair but the Wolves put up a decent fight but was overcome in a scoring frenzy at end of second period as the Donuts scored the last 6 goals.

      # TEAM PER TIME PLAYER GOAL#

7-3 10 WIS 3 13:17 Zajac 2
8-3 11 WIS 3 18:23 Stumpel 20 PPG
Game notes:
*It was Rolstons second hattrick since the blogg opened, his other was late februari against Calgary.
* Gomez got an assist so his streak is now at 16 games with at least a point.
* Donuts out shoot the Wolves with 45-23 and camped for 13:29 in the offensive zone and out passed 148-107.
* Jagr didn't score so the scoring race is now Straka 38, Rolston 36 and Jagr 33. I think Jagr is due!
* Thanks Pavelski, I din't trade you to score on me!
* Usually a top team is everywhere in top 10 stats but Donuts are not even close. I think it shows that the team is very balanced and not a one line team but three very complete lines. Nieds is at least a top3 in defensive scoring.
* Rolston has a 6 game scoring streak, 5 of the game he has had the first star!

First star: Rolston, 3G 1A, GWG, 10 SOGs, 15-2 in passing.
Second star: Zubov, 4A, 21-1 passing.
Third star: Niedermayer, 1G 1A, +2 for the night top of the team, 4-2 in corners and 20-2 in passing.

Tomorrow a harder nut to crack in the form of the former champs North Dakota. Donuts are healthy Arnott is out the line up for Ibex, thanks! :-]

Donut day off and 50th win!

It is a day off for the mighty warriors of Donuts, eagerly awaiting the games ahead. Here is the rest of the schedule for Wisborg Donuts:

Legend: in red is top 10 (22/3)
italics is intra div
bold top 5
Day 129: Thunder Bay @home
Day 130: North Dakota @away
Day 132: Stockholm @home
Day 134: Lahr @home
Day 137: Calgary @away
Day 138: Hamilton @away
Day 139: Karlstad @away
Day 141: Portland @home
Day 142: Copenhagen @away
Day 145: Denver @away
Day 147: Winnipeg @away
Day 149: Niagara Falls @home
Day 150: Stockholm @away
Day 153: Karlstad @home
Day 155: Stockholm @away

So the Donuts will play 6 at home and 9 away games at the end of season.
Donut will meet Stockholm 3 times and Karlstad 2 times.
6 out of 15 games are intra division.
The schedule isn't too awesome with the top game coming in day 145 against Denver away. It could be a preview of the finals later on. The away game against Karlstad in day 139 could be a "killer" depending on injuries on the games the two days before. A 3 day, 3 game road trip is always a risk even for healthy clubs.

Right now the donuts have got 50 wins!
Wisborg Donuts Record: 50-13- 3
Home: 27- 6- 2
Away: 23- 7- 1

InDiv: 16- 4- 0
OutDiv: 34- 9- 3
OT: 2- 1- 3
Leading After 2nd: 39- 2- 1
Losing After 2nd: 3-10- 0

The Donuts have never before won (or lost) 50 games in a season.
Best before was 2005/06 with 49 wins and 2003/04 with 49 losses.

It is reasonable to think Donut will end up somewhere between 125-130
points and the game against Denver could be the game that decided the
regular season winner this year!

Original Donut, Biron traded at deadline

On the last day before the trade deadline one of the real profiles in Donut-hockey was traded. Martin Biron has for most years in donut history been the number 1 goaltender. In the first year he alone took the team tot he conference finals.

It has been sad to see the the team first bringing in Nabokov to take over the no 1 spot and now Mason to take down Nabby to second. The goal tending trades this year have angered many fans who though the first mistake was to let Burke walk away and then trade Bryzgalov for Nabby. The fans have also heard rumors that Hasek would be a Donut and that would be really scary.

Earlier in the season Kilger was traded to Dayton left as original Donut are the Donut line, Langkow, Rolston, Doan and defensemen Ohlund and White. All but White are still regulars allthough the recent shopping of star has brought him down in rotation.

It is really sad to see Martin go says Mr Donut in a rare interview. He has been here all this time and if we go all the way this time he should have been there. But we greet Mason and hope he can take us to the top, Martin unfortunatly proved he couldn't this season.

Donuts let Niagara Fall, Day 111

In the middle of a 3 day/3 game series the stop this time was in Niagara. The players wondered a bit where they where when they landed on the airport.

For the second straight game the Donuts where off at the buzzer! There have been quite a few games the they haven't been able to score first. But last game they scored 2 in the first 3 minutes. This time it was 2 in 6 minutes, with Jagr (31) and Sharp (10). Jagr again pulling ahead in the scoring race against Straka with a score after 6 seconds! Zubov (10) added a power play goal around mid period got a short handed on a mistake to make it 3-1 after the first. 21-6 in shotting first period and Biron looked a little rusty.

Straka (31) pulled even with a goal to 4-1. Mid period Thunder responded with 2 gaols to come close at 4-3. Then Donuts added another 2, by Jovanovski (11) and Langkow (24) to make it 6-3 with 2 min to go. The game should be over but Sturm scored before the end to make it 6-4. Donuts continued shooting 22-8 in this period but 3-3 in scoring. Biron let in 4 goals on 14 shots and must have been awfully close to being pulled.

Third period showed another 3 goals Umberger sandwiched between Niedermayer (15) and Straka (32). Straka again taking the lead in the Donut king race. Game ends 8-5 to Donuts.

Donuts out shot the opponent 64-21 almost 3-1, and had possession a massive 15:17 in offensive zone. In passing Donuts had the "edge" with 157-59 with a completion of 89%. This game should in reality never have been so close. Niagara should thank Biron for keeping them in the game! Lehtinen left the game late in the period with a sprained knee. 3 out of 8 goals came from defensemen.

First star: Jagr, 1G 3A, 5 SOGs and 11-0 in passing.
Second star: Gomez, 3A, 13-2 in FO and 9-0 in passing.
Third star: Niedermayer, 1G, 7 SOGs (second after Rolstons 11!) and massive 19-0 in passing.

Tomorrow game in Stockholm, Lehtinen out and maybe Doan back. then back on the plane to Hawaii for a days rest before a new away game on island fellow Hawaii.

Donuts surrounds Ferrets, Day 110

Donuts made it 2-0 in the first 3 minutes and actually the game ended there. It was Rolston (22) and Jagr (30) scoring. In the internal hot fight for the scoring champ title Jagr and Straka again are tied. Ferrets responded with a comeback in the third period making it 2-1 but the game ended like that.

Dounts out shoot Ferrets 55-22, had possession in offensive zone 15:06 and out passed 178-105 with 87% completed. Donuts where 1-6 at power play while Ferrets where 0-3.

First star: Jagr, 1G, 7 SOGs, GWG and 17-3 in passing.
Second star: Gomez, 1A, 5 SOGs, 16-8 in FO and massive 24-0 in passing.
Third star: Nabokov, 22 Shots against and 1 in the net. An good performance, more please.

Next game against Niagara tomorrow Doan is starting to skate but is questionable for tomorrow.

Donuts win against Long Island, Day 108

With Doan out and long Island going right on track like a train (sorry...) it was bound to be a tough game. Long Island was 13-13-2 coming into the game while Donut was 18-6-1 on the road.

As usual Donuts are off to slow scoring start and let Long Island score first. The first of Jason Blake's 4 goal performance. Even though Donuts out shot the Express with 18-10 it was 1-0 going into the intermission.

In a penalty filled second period (10 minors total) Express scored a second goal to 2-0. It was not until late in the second period that Donuts found the fast track to the crease (sorry...) Niedermayer (14) and Rolston (21) made the score 2-2 going into the final period. With all penaltie sno one had time to shot the puck so it was only 8-8 in the shots on goal in the period.

Third period saw Jovanovski (10) score a powerplay goal to go ahead 3-2. Jason Blake score 2 goals at 3 and 13 min into the game, to again push Long Island ahead. Just 400 seconds to go and down by 3-4 not looking good. Long Island relaxed a bit after the score and that let Donuts score less than a minute after Long Islands score, Boucher (14). In a daring move Boucher then darted up scoring again just 11 seconds after his first goal, Boucher (15). Jason Blake scored his 4:th goal for a 5-5 tie with 3 minutes remaining. Stumpel (17) scored the game winner with a minute remaining and Boucher (15) completed his hattrick with an empty netter with 10 seconds remaining.

5 out of the 7 Donuts goals where by defensemen, talk about scoring from the blue line. Donuts won the last period by 5-3 and out shooting with 20-10 for a total of 46-28.

First star: Boucher, 3G 1A, 5 SOGs, 1 blocked shot, +3 on the night, 2-1 in corners and 14-3 in passing all star performance in 27 minutes.
Second star: Niedermayer, 1G 2A, 6 SOGs, +4 on the night and 8-3 in passing.
Third star: Rolston, 1G 2A, 5 SOGs, +4 on the night and 8-1 in passing.

Donut of the month (Feb): Jagr

Time again to figure out which player wins 50 kilos of Donuts as a reward from our sponsor.

It is determined from the Stars in the game where the first get 3 points down to one point on the third star. As a tie breaker most 3´s win and so on.

15 games during the month:
Jagr: 2+3+2+3+3+2+3= 18
Boucher: 1+2+2+3+2= 10
Rolston; 3+3+3= 9
Stumpel: 3+2+1+3= 9
Straka: 2+3+3= 8
Niedermayer: 1+3+2+2= 8
Gomez: 2+1+3+1= 7
Nabokov: 1+1+2+1= 5

Doan: 2+1= 3
Jovanovski: 2+1= 3
Langkow: 1+1+1= 3

Foster: 1
Zubov: 1

Most times awarded a star was Jagr with 7 times and Boucher 5. Rolston had star 3 times all was first stars! Straka has scored 10 goals during the month. 15 different players got stars. But most importantly 18 stars during the month, to Mr Jagr!

Congrats Jaromir, your prize can be collected in the shop in the stands!

Crusaders cruise over Donuts, Day 105

This game is not always so predictable. what are the odds that Donuts, Spurs, Ronin and Killers all loose on the same day? I bet Hawaii are happy they had the day off.

Back to old habits, Donuts let the other team score first. This time twice in the first period. Doesn't matter if you out shoot the other team 19-11 if you don't score, right?!

Second period, 6 minor penalties and 19-5 in shooting on goal. That is a shot per minute, of course no goals.

Third period, Jagr (29) desperately tries to reach Straka in the race. Game ends 2-1 to Copenhagen, out shoot 53-19. The only stat that Copenhagen won as hits.
